Chapter Leader: Tionne Lewis

My name is Tionne Lewis and I am 49 years old. I was born in Dallas, Texas, raised in Louisiana, and currently live in Dallas. I am an only child. I was married for 30 years and am the proud mother of three boys.

In 2023, my husband passed away unexpectedly. While I was learning how to navigate life on my own for the first time, I was faced with another devastating blow in 2024 when I was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer. As a nurse, caring for others has always been my passion—but suddenly, I had to learn how to let others care for me.

One year after hearing those dreaded words, cancer is no longer showing up on my scans. While I am still dealing with some side effects, I refuse to let them stop me. Now I want to share my story to inspire others who may be going through a similar journey and remind them that they are not alone. I want to raise awareness, use my voice in a positive way, and allow my passion for helping others to shine through my experience.

I was scared and didn’t want to face the possibility that something could be seriously wrong with me. Today, I want to encourage women to get checked no matter how they feel, because it could truly be the difference between life and death. I thank God that my cancer was caught in time and that treatment was effective.
