Chapter Leader Catrina Trice Adams
In July of 2010, Catrina was diagnosed with stage IIB cervical cancer. After going through several months of treatment that included internal radiation, chemo, external radiation, and a partial hysterectomy, she was declared cancer-free on October 14, 2010.
While Catrina was going through treatment she did not have the support system she needed. Her family lived in another state and she was too private to share everything with her friends. Catrina found a card at her oncologist’s office for a support group that connected her to the NCCC. She connected with a group of women who had gone through some of the same things and found answers to questions she was too afraid to discuss with others that could not relate.
When Catrina learned about the NCCC chapters, she knew she wanted to get involved by spreading awareness and educating the community.
Catrina’s message:A support system is necessary. Surround yourself with those who care about your well-being and who are willing to take this journey with you. Also, be the support that someone may need.
