Caregivers
Caregiver Resources
Caregiver burnout is a real issue. There are several steps you can take to help assist you with caregiver burnout issues. Focus on a healthy good diet, exercise, possibly keeping a diary, receiving professional counseling and staying current on the related cancer. The American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org has information under their search engine on caregiver burnout. You may want to also try the website www.caregiver911.com.

Attitude
By Charles Swindoll
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our Attitudes."
"What Cancer cannot do"
What Cancer CANNOT do:
Cancer is so Limited...
It cannot cripple LOVE,
It cannot shatter HOPE,
It cannot corrode FAITH,
It cannot destroy PEACE,
It cannot kill FRIENDSHIP,
It cannot suppress MEMORIES,
It cannot silence COURAGE,
It cannot invade the SOUL,
It cannot steal ETERNAL LIFE,
It cannot conquer the SPIRIT.
Together, let's fight the fight...and win the war on cervical cancer...ALL
Cancers!
Quote by Eleanor Roosevelt
Your ongoing hope, strength and courage can be yours during difficult and troubling times.
Eleanor Roosevelt wrote:
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop and look fear in the face.
You are able to say to yourself, "I lived through this. I can take anything that comes along."
The gift of today and ongoing hope is for you to celebrate each day.
National Family Caregivers Month "Share The Caring"
The "Share The Caring" theme is an acknowledgment that care giving is more than a one-person job. It's a request for assistance. It's a call for action to help America's family caregivers.
The complex picture of caregiving in America is being painted every day by about 25 million people who provide long-term help to wives, husbands, parents, children, friends and other loved ones. Family caregiver work is for no pay. Their help may take many forms: providing emotional, financial, legal and spiritual assistance. Helping with physical assistance from going to the bathroom and coping with treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery to going to the drug store, monitoring medical devices, cooking the meals, shopping and watching the children.
Family caregivers are the underpinnings of our healthcare system. They provide 80% of all home care services. A major national study valued the family caregiver's un-reimbursed help at nearly $200 billion a year. If this were an industry, it would be huge!
NCCC and the National Family Caregivers Association www.nfcacares.org wish to honor and celebrate our nation's more than 25 million caregivers.
