  • I am a cancer survivor
  • July 24, 2005

Hi my name is Beverly and in September of 2003, I found out I was pregnant with my third child. I went in for a routine pap smear and two weeks later the doctor called telling me that I had abnormal cells on my cervix and they needed to test again. So, I went back tinking to myself that it was nothing, that the pregnancy was making everything out of wack, so to speak. Well again two weeks later the doctor called, but this time he told me I had pre-cancerous cells, but that it was nothing to worry about. I would be fine and so would the baby, and that after the baby is born the would check again and decide what to do. So in July of 2004 my son was born and I had totally blocked the cancerous cells from my mind, until the day after he was born and I hemmeraged. They ran a bunch of tests on me and came back and told me that a major factor that caused this to happen was I had full blown cancer!!! I couldn^t believe it, that had told me it would take years to change!! So I had to set another appointment, for the LEEP procedure. After the procedure I was so sore, I couldn^t believe how much it was hurting. They told me they could not be sure if they had gotten it all or not, but that I should get regular check ups. I go for another check up next tuesday. I can remeber though, that through the whole thing it never really set in on me what ws going on until I was in the hospital ready to have the surgery, I know it hurt the people in my life, and I want every women to know that it doesn^t matter how old you are, it can happen and you should always get yearly checkups, you owe it to yourself and your family, I know, I^m only 22.
