  • I am a cancer survivor
  • July 2, 2005 at 08:28:17

In 2002 at the age of 18 I got married to a man who was 22. In the third month of our marriage I decided to get my first pap. Since I had never been sexually active before my husband I figured I^d get ok results from the appt. Well I was wrong in more ways then one. Come to find out I had HPV (without the lesions). This came as a huge shock! What a wedding present my husband had given me. After the biopsy another shock came. The doctor had left gauze inside of me, and I didn’t figure this out till a week later. By the time I noticed that something was wrong it was to late. I went to the emergency room and during the exam a large gauze was found. Due to all the bacteria caused by the gauze I had a severe case of PID along with my HPV. After all was said and done I still developed PID two times more. It is almost three years later and 3 leeps later and I found out today my cancerous cells have once again returned and made their way around. To all the young ladies out there: just because he says he used protection before you: dont believe it. Two years after all was said and done my husband confessed the week before we were married he slept with a woman multiple times without protection. Of course like any curious woman I confronted her and she did admit she had HPV. Ladies if you know or even suspect you have contracted an STD please use caution. I^m only 20 and can’t have kids now because of all the gyno problems I^ve had. I am a Pre-Med student and I plan to inform women young and old of my story in hope that it will help at least one woman.
