I was diagnosed with Stage 2b Cervical Cancer on Valentines day of 2011. I had to undergo chemo, radiation and internal radiations. I was very sick and had days I felt joy- less. Those days were really tough. I can remember going in for my daily radiation treatments and sitting in the waiting room with my eyes closed because I did not want anyone to ask me how I was. After months of treatments I had a clean PET Scan. 2 months later I found out the radiation had damaged my colon and small inestine and had to have 3 surgeries to repair the damage. 1- to fix the colon and put on a temporary colostomy bag.. Then it collapsed again, so back to the hospital. The last surgery was March 2012 to remove the colostomy bag.
Once they left me alone and let me heal my recovery was pretty quick. This Sept I rode 59 miles for MS and I am back to myself 100%, with a few more battle wounds. I will not tell any of you that this is an easy journey. I had days I was ready to give up, but family and friends would not let me. For this I am grateful. I thought I could do this alone, but I could not. You must take help( not an easy thing for me) and get those that love you to support you. I still get stressed thinking about my upcoming PET scan, but feel good and hope this is the end of my Cancer story. I have tremendous gratitude in my heart.
