I have posted on this site a few times over the past couple of years. I have related to so many of you who are diagnosed with cervical cancer. I had mistakenly assumed that my heavy and sporadic periods were simply signs of menopause because I was in my early 50^s. But when I began hemorrhaging, I knew in my heart that this was something more.
So at the age of 54 in April 2006, I was diagnosed with papillary adenocarcinoma of the cervix. I was shocked because my pap test only a few months before was normal. Within a week of my diagnosis, I underwent a radical hysterectomy. The cancer had metastasized to one lymph node with cancer cells found in another. I underwent 7 weeks of simultaneous chemo and radiation treatments.
Fast forward to this month: I went for my check-up and my GYN oncologist declared me CURED! He dismissed me and told me he expects to never see me again. I assured him I felt the same say! He is returning me to my regular GYN physician.
I post this to GIVE HOPE to each one of you fighting this disease. I will celebrate my 59th birthday next week with the bright hope of celebrating many more in the future. I am a cancer survivor and pray that you will be too!! May God bless you!
