I was diagnosed in July 2009 during my 4th month of pregnancy. This was extremely surprising because in May when I found out I was pregnant I had a Pap Smear that came back normal!!!! I was devastated, especially when my Dr\^s wanted me to terminate the pregnancy. I refused to do so and let my Dr\^s know that I wanted to get the baby as close to 32 weeks as possible, even 30 weeks was a better outcome at this point. So every Thursday until September I traveled 4 hours away to followup with my Dr, it was aggressive, every week it would grow centimeters and my Dr was no longer willing to wait. At 27 weeks of pregnancy my cone biopsy was scheduled and an amazing team of Drs and nurses (25 to be exact) did the cone biopsy and succeeded in keeping me pregnant. Sadly 6 days later my son had to be delivered due to an infection we developed. He was 3 months premature and I still had cancer. Over the next few weeks while he was in the NICU fighting for his life, I was battling infections and had 3 other major surgeries until my last surgery in October 09. I had a Radical Hysterectomy at 28 yrs old, I am young but am thankful that I have a beautiful 7 yr old daughter and my son is now 6 months old... I am CANCER FREE!!!!!!
A lot can happen in 4 months, sadly it left us without jobs or a home. Rely on your family and friends to give you the support you need, I could not have made it through the scariest time in my life without the amazing support from my Husband, Family and friends. I hope this sheds some hope and encouragement for any who are fighting Cervical Cancer. As we pick up the pieces of our life, everyday I am so thankful to be here and to hold my sweet baby boy and my beautiful strong daughter.
