I had not had a pap smear in 3 years. My Gyn had retired. In September, I developed a rash on my breasts. I decided to make an appointment with a gynecologist since I knew I needed a pap smear. He found a polyp which he tried to remove in the office but was not successful. My pap smear and polyp results came back as adenocarcinoma of the cervix. I had a conization in October. They could not get clear margins so I was told I needed a Radical Hysterectomy. I found a Dr. Meuiner at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. He was a Gynecological Oncologist. He scheduled me for a Radical Hysterectomy using the DeVinci Robot. I had surgery on November 29th. I was eating a full meal after returning to my room and up walking in the halls that night. They had problems intubating me, so my throat was really sore. I did not need even pain medication. I did take some oral pain meds, mainly because of my throat. I went home the next day early afternoon. I did have to go home with a catheter for 12 days. I was very lucky. My reports came back as Stage I and my lymph nodes were clear. The only problem I am having now is loss of bladder control and a little depression over that. I would recommend anyone that needs a radical hysterectomy to check with an oncology gynecologist who uses the DaVinci robot. Instead of 8 days of hospital stay mine was reduced to 1. It was amazing. Do your research. I was very lucky.
