In September, 2014, chapter leader Andrea Powell participated in a webinar Myths, Misunderstandings and the Truth about Gynecological Cancer Screenings for the Black Women's Health Imperative. The goal of the webinar was to help educate African American women on the risks factors and early warning signs of cervical cancer and help women understand preventive care provided by the Affordable Care Act.
Also in September, the chapter distributed information and answered questions on HPV vaccines and early detection and screening of cervical cancer at the Volunteer and Resource Fair at Oakland Community College.
In 2013, Andrea partnered with Angie’s Angels in Detroit, Michigan to host a Zumbathon to raise awareness about cervical cancer as well to raise money for the chapter. The fiesta-style event featured a live DJ, booths, vendors, and lots of dancers.
